Hephzibah Llewellyn Jones Lecturer and Art Historian Header image

As an undergraduate at the University of London, I disappeared to Latin America for two years in the middle of my Spanish degree course. I should have been teaching English in Spain but, I was dancing in Colombia. I was going to discover Colombian culture and folk-lore through dance.

My love affair with that continent had begun and although my academic research has taken me in diverse directions I have journeyed back in my interests and curiosity to Latin America. As a lecturer and teacher in Hispanic Culture and Language and Art I have immersed myself in Latin American Art from the earliest days pre the invasion of the Spanish. I look at the influence of European Art to the vivid expression of Modern and Contemporary painting and the rich panorama of folk art.

My particular interests are the influence of the Baroque, Indigenism, Magical Realism, Surrealism, Identity and Folk Art.
